I have been an exhibiting, professional
artist for over ten years and have had many solo and group exhibitions
during this time.
My Greek heritage has greatly influenced my artistic
journey as well as travels through Europe and South East Asia.
The images I create are a synthesis of disparate influences such
as ancient myths and legends, the artistic legacy of matriarchal
Neolithic cultures, the sacred illuminations of Hildegard of Bingen,
dream states, the writings of Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell and
my exploration into the nature of personal reality. The content
of my work is also organic and meditative and explores universal
themes of transformation, redemption, flux and transcendence.
The highly symbolic and archetypal multi-layered
images I create also draw inspiration from a series of
pen drawings that I am creating in a series of artist's books.
Recurring motifs that appear in these drawings, including the
circle and spiral, are used as inspiration for my mixed media,
digital and acrylic works. The resulting images communicate the
presence of unseen worlds which are inhabited by alternate, organic life forms.
My recent mixed media work consists of a series
of highly textured images on wood. These “cutouts”
are slowly constructed using many layers of tactile materials
including found objects. My use of these found and recycled materials
reflects the rich diversity, eclecticism and modes of appropriation
in Western culture.
Similarly, my digital work incorporates the fusion of many layers
of images and textures derived from my own drawings, mixed media
and acrylic works and found and scanned objects and images.
